From month to month, things happen in our lives. The past few months have presented complex situations and adversity. Still, we overcome! We overcome because we are greater than situations and adversity.
Last year, I was overcome with chronic back pain. I learned I had several discs in my spine that were out of alignment causing a pinched nerve in my lower back. My initial thought was, "Lord, why? If it isn't one thing, it's another." Eventually, my thinking shifted to, "Lord, I'm grateful that I know this was occurring in my body and can now take the necessary steps to fix it."

A person's heritage speaks not only to where they originate but also to who they will become. It is important to know where you come from. In knowing where you come from, you understand why things happen the way they happen in your life. Proverbially, the dots are connected and you get answers to questions you never even knew you had.
What I love the most about learning about my heritage is the commonalities in my kin. I recently attended a family reunion and learned so much about my lineage. For instance, I learned that two sisters produced a lineage of 97 ministers; 97 people preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ! I also learned how many infant deaths (mostly male) and the causes. I learned why some of the siblings from my original clan didn't have many children. For instance, one died young (age 32) from asthma. Another died from asthma when he was only 16. |
